The Formation Skydiving (FS) competition consists of 4 events: 4-way FS, 4-way FS Female, 8-way FS, and 4-way VFS.  In all of these events, after exiting the aircraft, while in freefall, teams are required to perform a repeatable sequence of formations, which is randomly drawn from their respective event's dive pools.

For FAI World Championships, the US Parachute Team can send the following number of competitors:
1 4-way FS Team (up to 6 competitors)
1 4-way FS Female Team (up to 6 female competitors)
1 8-way FS Team (up to 11 competitors)
1 4-way VFS Team (up to 6 competitors)
